Why McCain and Palin are Scary!

I don’t like to share my political views too much on my other web sites because I don’t want to detract from other causes. My sites are usually family or fun oriented and left or right every parent is concerned with those issues and not necessarily in agreement with my political views. That is to be expected. I have been supporting Obama for President since he announced his intent to run. It wasn’t set in stone because I am not a party loyalist. I am actually an Independent and did not vote in the primaries. I was impressed with Ron Paul (a Republican) and the young and idealistic Obama.

My favorable impression of Obama grew as he was attacked by right wingers. It was absolutely incredible what he had to contend with…it was said he refused to salute the flag, he was an Islamic sleeper in waiting, he was lying about being Christian, and he was relentlessly labeled as the anti-Christ. I can’t even imagine being attacked in such a vile manner and yet he rarely ever said a negative word about his attackers…a true gentleman.

His speeches spoke about something that this American hadn’t felt in very long time…HOPE…CHANGE. I also loved the fact that he was a man of color because it was so significant to this country but secretly I also feared that all those people out there that claim they aren’t racist would in fact find themselves unable to vote for a black man. I totally understood Michelle Obama’s comment about being proud of her country. Maybe she had the same fears. I empathize with her.

I guess too I should mention that I definitely lean to the left. I am progressive…not conservative. I do want limited government but I don’t see that happening with conservatives. They want to be involved in our reproductive processes, they want to be involved in the sex education of our kids, they want to be involved in martial unions, they want to be involved in many aspects of our lives that I consider deeply personal and not open to government regulation or speculation. I am sorry but the Republican party has no business telling me who to love and marry. They have no business telling me that my PERSONAL choices make me less worthy of the rights that all Americans are SUPPOSED to have. And frankly when they are supportive of wars that no doubt kill innocent babies abroad then they have no business talking to me about the rights of the unborn protected by the mere fact that they are American. IMO they have some nerve…pro-life is pro-life across the board. Innocent American babies must be protected but innocent babies in other countries are fair game and adults who commit crimes well they deserve to die. Funny how they pick and choose who is worthy of life. ;) I really AM pro-life…and they are regulating morality they don’t have.

For MONTHS now Obama supporters have had to hear about how he has no experience, he is more of rock star than a good man, he wants to raise taxes, and of course..he is the anti-Christ. This week Republicans announced their VP pick…Sarah Palin. Already I see a swarm of people saying that she is being unfairly attacked. Funny how Hillary was told to suck it up if she wanted to play with the big boys by the right but Sarah they declare should be untouchable. Enough already!

The nomination of Sarah Plain was a political gimmick. Yes, she might be a good person and good Governor but it was a political maneuver on McCain’s part to nominate her…it was not reflective of experience or capability. After months of hearing how Obama had insufficient experience to lead this country, McCain puts a woman with even less experience a hair’s width away from the presidency. The man is up in years and has had cancer 4 times. Obama can’t run this country but she can huh??? Something stinks I tell ya.

Her nomination was followed by revelations that she was being investigated for abuse of power and that her teenage daughter was pregnant…which she deliberately hid from the public. Now I see no issue with her daughter being pregnant but it does indicate a deeper problem. The abstinence only sex education that Republicans lobby for and the anti-birth control they lobby for are CLEARLY not all they are cracked up to be. And who can forget that a popular Republican called Jamie Lynn Spear’s parents “Pinheads” and said they were to blame for her pregnancy but just a few days ago said that Bristol Palin’s pregnancy was a private family matter. Double standard anyone????

Then Democrats are being bashed by the right for actually objecting to her policies and experience. But there are some serious warning bells sounding for me on those fronts. If this is Maverick behavior then I am Santa Claus.

Sarah Palin has made no foreign policy decisions…none, nada. Having authority to command a military group like the national guard is not the same as actually doing it. She has no more experience in that regard than Obama.

Palin lied about the bridge to nowhere. She has said she was always staunchly against it but pictures popped up yesterday of her wearing a T-shirt that said Nowhere Alaska. She supported the bridge until she was ridiculed by the Feds and THEN she changed her mind.

Palin’s husband was part of a fringe group that wanted to declare Alaska independent of the United States.

Palin is in big oil’s pocket and has repeatedly been quoted as saying that we need to keep them (oil companies) happy.

“When I look every day, the big oil company’s building is right out there next to me, and it’s quite a reminder that we should have mutually beneficial relationships with the oil industry,” she said recently.

Her motives are/were PROFITS for Alaska via oil…nothing more. Her motto should be drill baby drill! And this should actually be scary to Americans because this profit from oil companies attitude should tell us that she believes OUR oil is a global commodity and she and McCain are likely to sell it to the highest bidder before they keep it here in the US.

She wants to legislate morality and Christian religious ideals in a country that is a melting pot of religious beliefs and practices. It also does not take into account that this issue effects MORE than just the rights of the unborn but also the rights of the woman carrying it. What about rape and incest situations where she was FORCED to carry that child by someone who violated her rights? And who a person marries should not be the consideration of government.

Here is my advice. Declare YOURSELF pro-life or heterosexual or both….pat yourself on the back heartily…and then let everyone else make their OWN decisions. God gives us choice but you think others shouldn’t have that…hmmm.

The sanctity of marriage argument is silly… I have to laugh at that one. I think heterosexuals have already ruined the sanctity of marriage. We have more than a 50% divorce rate, extra marital affairs are even more common than that…yet homosexuals ruin the sanctity of marriage???? Say what?

Once again…I chose to marry a man…my choice…I will not stand in judgement of other people and tell them they cannot make a choice contrary to mine. I will not tell another American citizen they should not have the same rights that I do because they fell in love with someone of the same sex.

Palin sees wildlife as a liability where oil drilling is concerned. When animal species are in the way of her goals they get killed. She has specifically target polar bears because they interfere with oil drilling and she ignored the ban that her Alaskan people voted for twice to allow wolves and bears to be hunted from the air by plane. It is all about keeping moose and caribou populations high…they LIKE those animals because they eat them….wolves and bears are expendable.

She also used 400,000 of state money to fund ads for her wolf/bear shooting spree.

Proposition 4″ in Alaska would have prohibited or restricted new mining operations that would affect salmon in the state’s streams and rivers, and was crafted in order to prevent the development of the Pebble Mine, which if approved would be the largest open-pit gold and copper mine in North America.  So BIG it would be seen from space. Toxic runoff from the mine would threaten the Bristol Bay ecosystem, and put drinking water at risk. It is widely opposed by commercial fishers, native populations, and environmentalists in the state. Here is what Sarah had to say about this protective measure:

“Let me take my governor’s hat off just for a minute here and tell you, personally, Prop. 4, I vote no on that,” she said.

In her speech at the RNC she did not touch on any of the issues she represents. She used the opportunity to bash Obama. Palin said that community organizers have no “actual responsibilities”. The implication is that they are not capable of leading or making meaningful decisions. So good deeds, real community involvement, helping your community amounts to nothing because you didn’t have an executive title while you were bettering your community. Making decisions about how to help your community members who lost jobs amounts to nothing because that all important title was missing. Her words were insulting to community organizers everywhere. I sure hope she didn’t use any community organizers to run her campaign. ;) Obama served as a community organizer in poor areas of Chicago that were loosing jobs and homes when industry collapsed. He did this job for a salary of $10,000 a year. We need more people like that in this world I say.

And the infamous tax issue. Well, how will we resolve the 400 billion dollar deficit GWB left us with without raising taxes? You can’t. McCain’s tax cuts will result in a pitiful 3% after tax income increase. Obama plans to tax those making over $250,000. Obama would provide $80 billion in tax breaks, mainly for poor workers and the elderly, including tripling the Earned Income Tax Credit for minimum-wage workers and higher credits for larger families. I know which option sounds better to me.

As mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town totaling $27 million. In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation. After being elected Wasilla mayor, one of Palin’s first acts was to increase Wasilla’s sales tax. She also inherited a town with no deficit and after she was done as mayor it was 20 million dollars in debt.

We cannot afford to elect another fiscal conservative!

Under a democratic president:

More jobs were created under Clinton than the full terms of Reagan, George Bush and George W. Bush COMBINED.

Median family income rose on average of $6,000 under Clinton, it has since declined under Bush.

Unemployment was it it’s lowest level in 33 years under Clinton, it has increased under G.W. Bush.

The U.S. Dollar was it’s strongest since post WWII under Bill Clinton. It has drastically dropped under Bush.

Inflation levels were at the lowest rate since the Kennedy administration. Under G.W. Bush it has soared.

Turned the largest deficit in history into the largest surplus by curbing spending across the board. Under G.W. Bush the national debt is at record levels with a MASSIVE increase in federal spending.

Statistics provided by the Department of Labor and the General Accounting Office.

So there it is. Don’t expect liberals to lay off of McCain and Sarah when we have LEGITIMATE concerns. Frankly who cares if she is a mom and a woman…we need some one capable of leading and not someone who has clearly shown fiscal irresponsibility.

The ethical, moral Republicans need to stop buying elections like they did with Gore and Kerry. Or are we supposed to believe that Kerry getting negative votes on several voting machines is actually statistically possible?

Republicans need to stop trying to push morality and religion on people who should have a choice in the matter. And if you still feel the need to act as though America MUST adopt your morality please don’t nominate a man who broke his marriage vows when his wife became disabled and hooked up with a young hottie. Don’t nominate someone who thrives on war. Don’t nominate someone who says one thing and does another. Don’t change your opinions so fast we get whiplash trying to keep up…ya know one day teen pregnancy equates to pinhead parents and the next it is private and no reflection on the parents. One day Hillary needs to play with the big boys and the next crying foul because someone said something unkind about a WOMAN and hockey mom! At least liberals didn’t call her the anti-christ. ;) That would have been just sick right?

And I am sorry if I offended you in this post or on Twitter or elsewhere lately. But this liberal is sick to death of the double standards.

Green Works Natural Dishwashing Liquid

I think you all know from my other blogs that we are a green family. Last week we tested a bottle of Green GreenWorksWorks Natural Dishwashing Liquid. I pretty much knew I would like it from the get-go because I like their other products. Yes, it is made by Clorox…the bleach company but these products are good and 99% green and natural so that makes them a good choice in my book. Especially since they are more affordable than many other green cleaners on the market. Some people can’t afford to be all high and mighty about their product choices so I am happy to see lower price options like Green Works.

The dish soap has a very nice smell and it gets the dishes clean all with plant based biodegradable ingredients. The bottle can be recycled as it is made with #1 plastic and its not tested on animals. All big plus points. The ingredients are primarily water, cleaning agents derrived from cocounts and essential oils. It has no Phosphates in it either…which is important for health and water safety issues.

Green Works has joined with the Sierra Club in support of their efforts to conserve clean air, water, and wildlife, and all of their products carry the Sierra Club logo. Additionally, the EPA has recognized the dish soap for using environmentally preferred chemistry, with their logo also proudly displayed on the bottle. Green Works Dishwashing Liquid comes in five scents: Original, Water Lily, Tangerine, Free & Clear, and Simply Lemon.

I would use this dishwashing liquid again in a heartbeat. The smell was fantastic, its natural, its green, it works.

My Birthday Bash

So how did I spend my 31st birthday today? Well, I didn’t shower until about 5:00 PM…cause I am uber glamorous like that. My hubby slept all day and got up to go to work at 4:00 PM and didn’t even recall that is was my birthday or at least he didn’t say anything if he did.

My parents, my brother, my 3 kids and I went out to dinner at a sports bar. My 2 year old was extremely unhappy with the food I ordered him (he wanted a nasty hot dog) and decided to have a meltdown. It was the worst he has ever had and very unlike him. So I got to spend the dinner hour in the car with him while everyone else ate.

Then my mom and I went to Elder Beerman sans kiddies and she treated me to a shopping spree. I shopped the bargain bins and got a t-shirt, 2 pairs of jeweled flip-flops, and 4 dresses for my daughter.

Then I came home and had some cake my mom made for me, watched a DVD, wrote this post, and now I am going to read a book and drink a beer. Maybe when I turn 32 next year I will be on a beach in Fiji or Tahiti drinking a Pina Colada…here is to hoping.

Why I Am A Democrat

Well, actually I would not say that I am a Democrat or a Republican….I am more of an Independent. I like to evaluate everything before I make a decision and won’t let any political party ideals guide me across the board. I do however lean more to the left than the right. I am more blue than red. I am more liberal than Conservative. I am more Dem than Repub.

And one reason I think this may be is because Republicans are supposedly about being conservative, straight laced, moral, religious…yawn fest. Plus most Republicans that are trying to gain our acceptance look like this:

John McCain

I am sorry but this guy is ancient and I seriously believe that he has the beginning stages of Alzheimer’s disease. He can never remember his own stance on many of the issues. Puhlease! And let’s not even mention our current President. How can these guys possibly know what YOUNG voters want and value? They don’t and they don’t care…as is evidenced by the fact that GWB and his followers bought both elections he won.

No compare those guys to THESE guys…oooh la, la. I know whose side I am on.

Bill Clinton

The Dangerous Days of Daniel X

Over the weekend I read The Dangerous Days of Daniel X. It is a sci-fi book about a 15 year old alien Daniel X Bookhunter who also happens to be an alien. The book is written for young adults I think but older adults will also be entertained. It was a very fun read and the story felt like something out of Men in Black. Fun and exciting and not to gruesome…although it has its moments.

The story is told from the first person which makes it feel as though we are following Daniel as he journeys around the world to hunt and kill all the bad aliens on ”The List”. This list was given to him by his parents who were savagely murdered in front of Daniel when he was only 3 by alien number #1 on said list. The further down the list you go…the more powerful and dangerous the alien. Daniel takes up where his parents left off, as they were alien hunters too.

Some interesting things I like about the character were his abilities to manifest other people to be companions. His parents are long dead but Daniel manifests parents in the images of his own when he is lonely or he needs to explain to authorities that he really does have parents. He also manifests friends because he is hesitant to find any real ones. Daniel is a very like-able and humorous character. I love how he is able to handle himself with adults who talk down to him too. I also love how responsible Daniel is. He is still a teenager after all but the weight of his responsibilities and the fact that he has had to navigate without parents has really helped him grow as a person and he is not your typical teen.

This particular story follows along as he attempts to hunt alien #6 who is abducting children and trafficking them off the planet to be slaves and pets for other aliens. Alien #6 is far stronger than Daniel and has amazing abilities of his own which makes for a very tense story with lots of nail biting moments and wondering how this story can possibly be turned around.

The book was very well written, very entertaining, and takes the reader on one exciting and slightly terrifying journey through a part of our planet that we “humans” don’t see. There are more stories about Daniel X to come. This book features a chapter of the next adventure as well.

Happy reading!

Simply Chic Eye Candy

Does this back-to-school time of year start to make YOU want some cool mommy supplies…maybe some pretty magnets, folders, notebooks, a cutesy mouse pad, and calendar. I know I have to stay out of the office/school supply sections of stores because it DOES draw me in and make me want to buy.

If you are anything like me in that regard and/or shop at Wal-Mart I may have some bad news for you. To help women and teens get organized in style, Carolina Pad and Paper and Jacqueline Savage McFee have just launched two incredibly beautiful new lines of paper and organizational products at Wal-Mart, designed just for women and teens. They are called Simply Chic and Eye Candy and they are both equally! Definately a great way to glam your home office!

They were lovely enough to send me some samples and I have been ooh and aahing for some time now. Even their sticky notes and flags look straight out of Vouge magazine! I especially their magnets…mods squares, pink and green with polka dots, black and white modern designs….lovely. The paper flags are more of the same. I also love the designer pens…which are now my “special pens”.  Also got a cool journal, a couple smazzy looking folders/paper organizers…perfect for homeschool stuff, a small calendar that can fit in my purse, a groovy flowered mouse pad, and a box of notes for a desk…I gifted them to someone and she was elated. All in all this is a very smart and elegant collection. I am too old for the cutesy stuff they usually have at Wal-Mart for tween girls. Simple Chic and Eye Candy are just perfect. Here is a sneak peak…or head over to Wal-Mart and see for yourself.

Check out their web site too!

Good Stuff at Big Lots

I have a special place in my heart for Big Lots. I furnished my first home with stuff mostly from Big Lots. :) In recent years though I have stopped going so I don’t get sucked into buying the plastic, low quality toys and in general…stuff I don’t need.

Today though I wanted to check out their school supplies because I have gotten some great deals there before and I had a great purchase day. I got:

A LeapFrog LeapPad Learning System for almost half price. It is listed at $77 on Amazon and I got it for $40 and mine came with two first grade books.

Two Hooked on Math sets…one for 1-2 grade and one for Kindergarten. They are $15 each on Amazon and I got them for $5 each.

4 manuscript tablets for $1 each. These will be great for handwriting practice.

A big bag of pencils for $1.

And a teacher’s notebook that will be perfect to record our daily/weekly homeschool activities, $1.

I also got my daughter a couple books.

A Hush Hush Topic

There is an issue that affects many women I am sure, especially women who have given birth several times, but they don’t like to talk about it. It is one of those hush, hush things…bladder control problems. Well guess what, one in four of us Moms suffers from light bladder leakage (as many of us can attest as we jump on trampolines or laugh, cough or sneeze too hard), yet we rarely talk about it. Why are we so embarassed? Leaking urine, having to urinate frequently and experiencing other symptoms of urinary incontinence aren’t trivial consequences of childbirth or a natural parts of aging either. You can do something about it if you seek medical help. The Mayo Clinic suggests seeing a Urogynecologist. This is an obstetrician-gynecologist with additional training in problems that affect a woman’s pelvic floor — the network of muscles, ligaments, connective tissue and nerves that help support and control the bladder and other pelvic organs. Anyone can start researching and see what they can do.

To help open a dialogue about pelvic health and reverse the stigma often associated with bladder and pelvic issues, Poise has joined with the Women’s Health Foundation (WHF) to increase awareness of pelvic health and wellness. At a recent benefit to raise awareness they presented the first-ever Passion Award to Linda Michael of Portage, Indiana because her story of personal triumph over pelvic pain and bladder control issues - and her willingness to tell about it. Click here for Linda’s Story. It is awesome that they are trying to bring awareness to this issue.
