I don’t like to share my political views too much on my other web sites because I don’t want to detract from other causes. My sites are usually family or fun oriented and left or right every parent is concerned with those issues and not necessarily in agreement with my political views. That is to be expected. I have been supporting Obama for President since he announced his intent to run. It wasn’t set in stone because I am not a party loyalist. I am actually an Independent and did not vote in the primaries. I was impressed with Ron Paul (a Republican) and the young and idealistic Obama.
My favorable impression of Obama grew as he was attacked by right wingers. It was absolutely incredible what he had to contend with…it was said he refused to salute the flag, he was an Islamic sleeper in waiting, he was lying about being Christian, and he was relentlessly labeled as the anti-Christ. I can’t even imagine being attacked in such a vile manner and yet he rarely ever said a negative word about his attackers…a true gentleman.
His speeches spoke about something that this American hadn’t felt in very long time…HOPE…CHANGE. I also loved the fact that he was a man of color because it was so significant to this country but secretly I also feared that all those people out there that claim they aren’t racist would in fact find themselves unable to vote for a black man. I totally understood Michelle Obama’s comment about being proud of her country. Maybe she had the same fears. I empathize with her.
I guess too I should mention that I definitely lean to the left. I am progressive…not conservative. I do want limited government but I don’t see that happening with conservatives. They want to be involved in our reproductive processes, they want to be involved in the sex education of our kids, they want to be involved in martial unions, they want to be involved in many aspects of our lives that I consider deeply personal and not open to government regulation or speculation. I am sorry but the Republican party has no business telling me who to love and marry. They have no business telling me that my PERSONAL choices make me less worthy of the rights that all Americans are SUPPOSED to have. And frankly when they are supportive of wars that no doubt kill innocent babies abroad then they have no business talking to me about the rights of the unborn protected by the mere fact that they are American. IMO they have some nerve…pro-life is pro-life across the board. Innocent American babies must be protected but innocent babies in other countries are fair game and adults who commit crimes well they deserve to die. Funny how they pick and choose who is worthy of life.
I really AM pro-life…and they are regulating morality they don’t have.
For MONTHS now Obama supporters have had to hear about how he has no experience, he is more of rock star than a good man, he wants to raise taxes, and of course..he is the anti-Christ. This week Republicans announced their VP pick…Sarah Palin. Already I see a swarm of people saying that she is being unfairly attacked. Funny how Hillary was told to suck it up if she wanted to play with the big boys by the right but Sarah they declare should be untouchable. Enough already!
The nomination of Sarah Plain was a political gimmick. Yes, she might be a good person and good Governor but it was a political maneuver on McCain’s part to nominate her…it was not reflective of experience or capability. After months of hearing how Obama had insufficient experience to lead this country, McCain puts a woman with even less experience a hair’s width away from the presidency. The man is up in years and has had cancer 4 times. Obama can’t run this country but she can huh??? Something stinks I tell ya.
Her nomination was followed by revelations that she was being investigated for abuse of power and that her teenage daughter was pregnant…which she deliberately hid from the public. Now I see no issue with her daughter being pregnant but it does indicate a deeper problem. The abstinence only sex education that Republicans lobby for and the anti-birth control they lobby for are CLEARLY not all they are cracked up to be. And who can forget that a popular Republican called Jamie Lynn Spear’s parents “Pinheads” and said they were to blame for her pregnancy but just a few days ago said that Bristol Palin’s pregnancy was a private family matter. Double standard anyone????
Then Democrats are being bashed by the right for actually objecting to her policies and experience. But there are some serious warning bells sounding for me on those fronts. If this is Maverick behavior then I am Santa Claus.
Sarah Palin has made no foreign policy decisions…none, nada. Having authority to command a military group like the national guard is not the same as actually doing it. She has no more experience in that regard than Obama.
Palin lied about the bridge to nowhere. She has said she was always staunchly against it but pictures popped up yesterday of her wearing a T-shirt that said Nowhere Alaska. She supported the bridge until she was ridiculed by the Feds and THEN she changed her mind.
Palin’s husband was part of a fringe group that wanted to declare Alaska independent of the United States.
Palin is in big oil’s pocket and has repeatedly been quoted as saying that we need to keep them (oil companies) happy.
“When I look every day, the big oil company’s building is right out there next to me, and it’s quite a reminder that we should have mutually beneficial relationships with the oil industry,” she said recently.
Her motives are/were PROFITS for Alaska via oil…nothing more. Her motto should be drill baby drill! And this should actually be scary to Americans because this profit from oil companies attitude should tell us that she believes OUR oil is a global commodity and she and McCain are likely to sell it to the highest bidder before they keep it here in the US.
She wants to legislate morality and Christian religious ideals in a country that is a melting pot of religious beliefs and practices. It also does not take into account that this issue effects MORE than just the rights of the unborn but also the rights of the woman carrying it. What about rape and incest situations where she was FORCED to carry that child by someone who violated her rights? And who a person marries should not be the consideration of government.
Here is my advice. Declare YOURSELF pro-life or heterosexual or both….pat yourself on the back heartily…and then let everyone else make their OWN decisions. God gives us choice but you think others shouldn’t have that…hmmm.
The sanctity of marriage argument is silly… I have to laugh at that one. I think heterosexuals have already ruined the sanctity of marriage. We have more than a 50% divorce rate, extra marital affairs are even more common than that…yet homosexuals ruin the sanctity of marriage???? Say what?
Once again…I chose to marry a man…my choice…I will not stand in judgement of other people and tell them they cannot make a choice contrary to mine. I will not tell another American citizen they should not have the same rights that I do because they fell in love with someone of the same sex.
Palin sees wildlife as a liability where oil drilling is concerned. When animal species are in the way of her goals they get killed. She has specifically target polar bears because they interfere with oil drilling and she ignored the ban that her Alaskan people voted for twice to allow wolves and bears to be hunted from the air by plane. It is all about keeping moose and caribou populations high…they LIKE those animals because they eat them….wolves and bears are expendable.
She also used 400,000 of state money to fund ads for her wolf/bear shooting spree.
Proposition 4″ in Alaska would have prohibited or restricted new mining operations that would affect salmon in the state’s streams and rivers, and was crafted in order to prevent the development of the Pebble Mine, which if approved would be the largest open-pit gold and copper mine in North America. So BIG it would be seen from space. Toxic runoff from the mine would threaten the Bristol Bay ecosystem, and put drinking water at risk. It is widely opposed by commercial fishers, native populations, and environmentalists in the state. Here is what Sarah had to say about this protective measure:
“Let me take my governor’s hat off just for a minute here and tell you, personally, Prop. 4, I vote no on that,” she said.
In her speech at the RNC she did not touch on any of the issues she represents. She used the opportunity to bash Obama. Palin said that community organizers have no “actual responsibilities”. The implication is that they are not capable of leading or making meaningful decisions. So good deeds, real community involvement, helping your community amounts to nothing because you didn’t have an executive title while you were bettering your community. Making decisions about how to help your community members who lost jobs amounts to nothing because that all important title was missing. Her words were insulting to community organizers everywhere. I sure hope she didn’t use any community organizers to run her campaign.
Obama served as a community organizer in poor areas of Chicago that were loosing jobs and homes when industry collapsed. He did this job for a salary of $10,000 a year. We need more people like that in this world I say.
And the infamous tax issue. Well, how will we resolve the 400 billion dollar deficit GWB left us with without raising taxes? You can’t. McCain’s tax cuts will result in a pitiful 3% after tax income increase. Obama plans to tax those making over $250,000. Obama would provide $80 billion in tax breaks, mainly for poor workers and the elderly, including tripling the Earned Income Tax Credit for minimum-wage workers and higher credits for larger families. I know which option sounds better to me.
As mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town totaling $27 million. In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation. After being elected Wasilla mayor, one of Palin’s first acts was to increase Wasilla’s sales tax. She also inherited a town with no deficit and after she was done as mayor it was 20 million dollars in debt.
We cannot afford to elect another fiscal conservative!
Under a democratic president:
More jobs were created under Clinton than the full terms of Reagan, George Bush and George W. Bush COMBINED.
Median family income rose on average of $6,000 under Clinton, it has since declined under Bush.
Unemployment was it it’s lowest level in 33 years under Clinton, it has increased under G.W. Bush.
The U.S. Dollar was it’s strongest since post WWII under Bill Clinton. It has drastically dropped under Bush.
Inflation levels were at the lowest rate since the Kennedy administration. Under G.W. Bush it has soared.
Turned the largest deficit in history into the largest surplus by curbing spending across the board. Under G.W. Bush the national debt is at record levels with a MASSIVE increase in federal spending.
Statistics provided by the Department of Labor and the General Accounting Office.
So there it is. Don’t expect liberals to lay off of McCain and Sarah when we have LEGITIMATE concerns. Frankly who cares if she is a mom and a woman…we need some one capable of leading and not someone who has clearly shown fiscal irresponsibility.
The ethical, moral Republicans need to stop buying elections like they did with Gore and Kerry. Or are we supposed to believe that Kerry getting negative votes on several voting machines is actually statistically possible?
Republicans need to stop trying to push morality and religion on people who should have a choice in the matter. And if you still feel the need to act as though America MUST adopt your morality please don’t nominate a man who broke his marriage vows when his wife became disabled and hooked up with a young hottie. Don’t nominate someone who thrives on war. Don’t nominate someone who says one thing and does another. Don’t change your opinions so fast we get whiplash trying to keep up…ya know one day teen pregnancy equates to pinhead parents and the next it is private and no reflection on the parents. One day Hillary needs to play with the big boys and the next crying foul because someone said something unkind about a WOMAN and hockey mom! At least liberals didn’t call her the anti-christ.
That would have been just sick right?
And I am sorry if I offended you in this post or on Twitter or elsewhere lately. But this liberal is sick to death of the double standards.
